Christmas comes early thanks to Phoebe Bridgers' new festive heartbreaker
Is it too early for Christmas songs? Definitely not when they're as good as this one from Phoebe Bridgers.
The ultra-talented singer/songwriter has stolen our hearts with debut LP Strangers In The Alps, released just a couple of months ago, but she's not resting on her laurels.
Taking on seasonal staple "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", Bridgers gives her affecting strain of sound a frosty twist: percussion crunches like snow, guitars echo into the distance, and her typically heavyweight vocals twirl through the lyrics, stripping them of sentimentality and working the words to the bone. Despite the chills, there's a warmth to be gleaned from Bridgers' rich production and perfect vocals - it might be devastating on the outset, but the deeper you dive the sweeter it becomes.
