Belle and Sebastian to record Eurovision concept album
Everyone loves the Eurovision Song Contest, or at least tolerates it as a guilty pleasure. It turns out that Belle and Sebastian are no different, stating that they’re taking inspiration from the kitsch variety show for their next LP.
Speaking to Rolling Stone recently, the Glasgow band stated that they will record their ninth studio effort in March, with frontman Stuart Murdoch saying they ”will have failed” if the album isn’t out by the autumn.
“I remember saying to the band, I want to do an album that one song feels like it could be the Cyprus entry for 1974. And then next song would be the German entry for 1989, or something like that,” Murdoch told Rolling Stone. “You might not see that in the finished songs, but somewhere that’s been an inspiration.”
Before then however, Murdoch will premiere his debut film God Help the Girl at the Sundance Film Festival.
