300 women in the Australian music industry sign #meNOmore open letter calling for change
Almost 200 women in the Australian music industry have signed an open letter calling out sexual harassment and sexist behaviour and demanding change.
Courtney Barnett, Sarah Blasko, Jen Cloher, Little May, The Veronicas, and many, many more musicians and behind-the-scenes figures have signed the letter, which follows a similar campaign in Sweden.
"We are women who work in the Australian music industry," part of the letter reads. "We are artists, musicians, managers, lawyers, booking agents, record label employees, publicists, and more."
"We all have our own stories, or know someone who does," the letter continues. "We are not whingers or vibe-killers. We are passionate people dedicating our lives to music. In the face of uncountable discrimination, harassment, violence, and the general menace of sexist jargon, we have gritted our teeth and gotten on with the job. But today we say, no more."
The letter then features a string of anonymous stories, which range "from the tragic, to the horrific, to the every-day norm".
