Boko Yout unveils debut album GUSTO, driven by semi-fictional character
Swedish artist Boko Yout has confirmed the release of his debut album, GUSTO, alongside the launch of his latest single "9-2-5"
Following sets at The Great Escape and supporting Viagra Boys, Boko Yout has announced GUSTO, his debut full-length record. The album is framed as a fictional therapy programme, led by Dr. Gusto, who guides Yout's alter ego, Mordecai, as the record explores themes of identity, trauma, and memory.
New single "9-2-5" introduces Mordecai as a privileged dropout navigating hustle culture. “This is Mordecai’s red pill moment,” says Boko Yout, real name Paul Adamah. “He’s kicked out, broke, obsessed with morning routines and mindset hacks. It’s ridiculous, but also real. I’ve done gig work, freelanced, even worked at IKEA, that pressure to succeed can drive you mad.”
The track arrives alongside an official video directed by Axel Byrfors and produced by Slutet är nära, immersing the viewer in a fictional world to the character-led narrative of GUSTO.
Raised in a religious household in Örebro, with Togolese and Mozambican roots, Boko Yout draws on spiritual iconography and psychological archetypes to craft his work.
GUSTO is out 5 September via Hoopdiggas Recordings.
