Following an extensive tour in support of their 2007 full length Under the Blacklight, Rilo Kiley seemed to have reached breaking point and confirmed they were ‘on hiatus.’ Now it emerges that the band are not taking a break, they have officially broken up. Speaking to Spinner, guitarist Blake Sennett blamed “deception, disloyalty and greed” as his reasons for wanting to part with the band he formed with Jenny Lewis in 1998.
With the famous indie quartet behind him, Sennett is taking would-be Rilo Kiley songs for himself and his side-project with Elected but doesn’t rule out the possibility of unreleased Rilo Kiley songs seeing the last of day in some kind of multi-disc set.
