Nine Inch Nails' new LP Hesitation Marks gets four different album covers
Trent Reznor and co, Nine Inch Nails are set to release their new album Hesitation Marks this September, revealing this week that it’ll come equipped with four different front sleeves.
Having already shared the album’s lead single, ‘Came Back Haunted’, along with its David Lynch-directed video, Reznor has now unveiled a series of specially commissioned pieces designed by artist Russell Mills.
Each will be used for a different format the record in released in: a digital cover, a standard CD cover, a deluxe CD one and a cover for the vinyl pressing. They all contain different unique materials too, with the standard CD and digital pieces made from ‘blood’ and ‘earth’.
Mills said of the work:
“I’ve tried to lock into the album’s prevailing mood and echo the album’s essence. The ideas are not communicated in a literal or easily digested form, as this would be boring for me and would insult the intelligence of a potential audience. I’ve tried to make works that obliquely allude to the essence of the subject matter, to its emotional core.”
