BTS will still have to do military service
Korean Ministry of Defense officials have confirmed that BTS still have to do their compulsory military service.
Military service is mandatory in South Korea, but despite BTS' global status, the band will still have to complete their duty.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the eldest member of BTS, Jin, will be 27 in December. The age for conscription is capped at 28.
A Ministry of Defence official told The Hollywood Reporter, "The Ministry of Defense is currently debating with related authorities on improving the current alternate service [program] in place of conscription, but nothing has been decided as to when a change may take effect."
Fans have already set up multiple petitions campaigning to get the whole group to do their military service together so it doesn't interfere with their careers. One petition already has over 20,000 signatures.
BTS have only just returned from their month-long break after having toured and worked relentlessly since their debut album in 2013.
