Tems announces Leading Vibe Initiative supporting women in music across Africa
Grammy Award-winning artist Tems has launched the Leading Vibe Initiative – a platform designed to support, connect and amplify young women in music across Africa.
Set to debut this August with programming in her hometown of Lagos, Nigeria, the Leading Vibe Initiative will provide emerging artists, songwriters and producers with the tools, resources and connections to propel their creative journeys.
“My goal with the Leading Vibe Initiative is to help discover and support talented young women who have the potential to redefine the industry,” said Tems. “By providing access, tools and opportunity, we’re creating space for them to find their voices, step into their power and shape the future of music across the continent and globally.”
Inspired by Tems' own journey as a young woman and outsider in the music industry — navigating with limited resources or support — the Leading Vibe Initiative aims to empower the next generation of female artists, producers, songwriters, and music professionals, increasing female representation across every corner of the music industry.
Reports indicate that only 22% of artists worldwide are female, with just 12.8% of songwriters and 3% of music producers being women. Through partnerships with some of the world’s leading industry professionals, the initiative aims to unlock access to training, mentorship, resources, and pivotal career opportunities for emerging young women in music.
The initiative launches with an open call for applicants based in Nigeria to its inaugural program in Lagos, taking place 8-9 August. Apply now via leadingvibe.com.
