Swedish duo Death Team return with "Weekend", a gentle anthem for getting royally messed-up
Never ones for being backward in coming forward, Sweden's Death Team are back with another subtle plea for taking advantage of the end of the working week.
You'll know Mayka Edd and Johen Rafael Tilli for the delightful "Fucking Bitches In The Hood", and while new single "Weekend" isn't quite as in-your-face, the message remains the same.
It's a strange thing to say but "Weekend" finds Death Team at just about their most tender. Edd's vocals are approaching plaintive over skittering beats and burbling synths, yet the repetition of the line "getting fucked up by the weekend" brings us back to the Swedes' hedonistic reality.
'The song is about having bad luck in love and not knowing what you can do to distract from this other than partying at the weekend," says Johan. "Sometimes it takes letting go to really clear your mind." Mayka adds "Partying will always make you feel better. It's a release, like social therapy."
A pop tendency appealingly sullied by an urge for self-destruction, Death Team are starting to approach their best work with "Weekend".
