Hannah Cohen’s Child Bride, out now on Bella Union, is one of the most affecting records we’ve heard this year.
The renaisasance woman (she’s worked as a model, a photographer and – as claimed by several of her biographies – a ‘muse’) makes a sleepy, transporting sound that’s perfectly captured by the lush musical bildungsroman of her debut. She might only be 25 but her songs are steeped in a robust, work(wo)manlike maturity and weariness that cements Cohen’s place as terrifyingly talented force in new music.
We filmed Hannah’s Best Fit Session a few hours before her debut (sold out) show in the UK capital last month. She returns to the UK at the end of August for the End of the Road Festival.
