Lois pulls herself into the present in her bittersweet coming-of-age track “SEVEN”
Do you remember the days we used to romanticize getting older? It’s only when it happens that we feel it: growing up isn't as easy as we thought. Amongst the changes, we can either yearn for the past, or step confidently into the present. In her latest single “SEVEN,” Lois pushes for the latter amongst bright synthesizers and lush beats.
Distorted guitar and shimmering synths set the foundation for Lois’s effervescent "SEVEN" as she walks us down memory lane. Old CDs that once bred nostalgia now bring pain as Lois slips into a negative mindset. Age can make life lose its lustre, but the older Lois gets, she’s tired of feeling those same old emotions. It’s time to adopt a brighter perspective.
The lush soundscape thickens as Lois learns to stop asking the questions she’s used to. “Who’s gonna save me?” she sings, as she comes to the realization that it’s all her. “I don’t know you anymore,” she decides later on, holding a mirror to her past self. As a driving drum beat kicks in, Lois pulls listeners into the now. “Does everything change?” she asks atop a euphoric pop beat. While she’s still reeling from the past, the current moment is something Lois is finally ready to fight for.
“SEVEN” speaks to the persistent seriousness that sneaks into our heads with adulthood. It’s a mindset that can shape our days and steal our youth. To live fully, we have to abandon the negativity, and instead, learn to change our nature. Accept your present self, Lois says. The world is waiting.
"'SEVEN' is about sitting in the space between late teenage years and early adulthood. It’s the yearning for a life that makes sense, a clear direction and path, wanting to know your purpose in it all,” Lois explains. “It’s the first time in life where things aren’t set out for you. No school, or university to structure your world around. It’s the first taste of going it alone with only yourself to blame if it all goes wrong.”
She continues, "It’s the chaos and uncertainty of life and relishing in it, craving it, craving euphoria. Craving a party, night life, connection, dancing, crying, loving, it’s everything you go to a party for and facing everything you’re running away from, all at once, all the time. SEVEN is everything all at once.”
This addictive pop track comes just ahead of Lois’s upcoming EP, which is due out later this summer. Follow her below to stay in the loop.
