Some questions:

  1. Do you remember Zombienation? In about 1999, they had a huge, huge dancefloor hit with a track called ‘Kernkraft 400’, which everyone thinks is called ‘Zombienation’ because it keeps repeating the word “zombienation” as its central lyric. When I was about 12, I had the song on some sort of NOW! compilation, and I played it really loud on my cheap Alba CD player to prove to everyone that I was a rebellious teenager who liked loud dance music. Can’t remember if it worked or not. Did you ever do that? Do you remember Zombienation?
  2. If this review turns out to be positive, are you going to buy, or even listen to, Zombienation’s latest release? I mean, this is an indie music website primarily, and though the definition of what counts as “indie” music is pretty wide and loose, I don’t yet think that German electro-dance-pop falls within its boundaries. So chances are you’re not particularly interested in this type of music, and even if I declare it a glorious re-invention of the genre of German electro-dance-pop, you’re going to poke fun at me for knowing about German electro-dance-pop rather than rush out and fill your earspace with Zombielicious.
  3. Are you reading this because
    1. Your answer to question 1 was YES, and you are shocked and confused that Zombienation are both still going, and being reviewed on TLOBF. (this is the right answer)
    2. Your answer to question 1 was NO, and you have a vested interest in both hip indie bands and zombies, so were hoping to learn that, at long last, some pioneering individual had combined the two into a radio-friendly fusion. (sorry, no luck so far)
    3. Your answer to question 2 was YES, and you have the “purchase album” button readied on iTunes as soon as you get justification from your favourite music reviews website. (keep reading)
    4. You’ve enjoyed the previous work of reviewer Adam Nelson and have been looking forward to his latest piece for a while. (this is also the right answer)

It’s okay for what it is.
