Daft Punk have got a lot to answer for. If they hadn't have become so popular, we wouldn't all be listening to shitty French house knock-off bands. It's not really their fault, it's more a by-product of some musicians lack of originality and, well, the whole of the 1980's. The market has been flooded with plenty of this type of group for a while, so you'd think most people would be sick of it. Obviously not however, as groups like Heads We Dance are still coming out of the woodwork, peddling '21st century space disco dance floor fillers' as boldly stated by their press release.

All this really means is that most of these songs are bland re-hashings of any synth based music you've listened to and forgotten. But where to start the critiquing?

Right, spot the crap music time. Example one, the song 'Computer Love'. Starts off with a modem dial-tone. Now that IS inventive.

And as another major gripe, I have to apologise for the bluntness, but if you can hold a note but your voice sounds like junk, don't sing.Wait, that wasn't really fair. Let me rephrase.

If you are a man who sounds like he's trying to seduce David Bowie by doing an impression of him whilst rubbing him off, then don't sing. If you are a woman who sounds like she's trying to seduce Kate Bush by saying the words 'Data Date' in the stupidest, most irritating way possible, then don't sing. I don't know what is more annoying, the multiple musical stereotypes raped, pillaged and re-packaged by this ONE song or the horrible lyrical content and delivery.

'Ubik' is so egotistical and self-pampering in sound and style it makes my head hurt. The singers seriously have problems with their pronunciation, to the point that I turned this song off twice before making a bold attempt to hear it to the end. 'The Gold City' is at least a bold attempt to cross from wank Daft Punk ripoff to wank Goldfrapp ripoff, but the vocals kill it again. 'My Heart Is Set On You' could be a good single, if the 80's never existed and about a trillion and seven bands hadn't already trodden all over this well worn ground. The title track 'Love Technology' is full of sci-fi computer references, but done so so badly it comes across as trite and horrible. 'It's time to share these lonely nights with love technology' are not words you want to boast about mate. It just sounds odd.

To bring it back to the start, I'm not fooled by the press releases. Love Technology is secretly a collection of keyboard demos and Playstation One game soundtracks. Trust me. If you listen closely to the introduction, you can almost hear a sample from Final Fantasy 7, amongst all the unnecessary epic pomp and junk. Instead of finding this album, go and dig out Daft Punk's Human After All album instead. Job done. 30%
