Winston Marshall is taking time away from Mumford & Sons to "examine my blindspots"
Mumford & Sons' guitarist and banjo player Winston Marshall has released a statement confirming that he's taking time away from the band "to examine my blindspots".
Last weekend Marshall received backlash after praising Andy Ngo for his "important" book on Antifa called Unmasked. Marshall also called the right-wing journalist a "brave man" for the book release, and deleted the Tweet after receiving criticism.
A few days on from his weird endorsement, Marshall has released a statement confirming he's taking time away from Mumford & Sons. He wrote, "Over the past few days I have come to better understand the pain caused by the book I endorsed. I have offended not only a lot of people I don’t know, but also those closest to me, including my bandmates and for that I am truly sorry."
Marshall continued, "As a result of my actions I am taking time away from the band to examine my blindspots."
He added, "For now, please know that I realise how my endorsements have the potential to be viewed as approvals of hateful, divisive behaviour. I apologise, as this was not at all my intention."
