Glastonbury to stop in 2018

Glastonbury Festival has confirmed that in 2018 it will stopping for its first year off since 2012.

"We can also confirm that we will be taking our next fallow year in 2018," a post on the iconic fest's website reads. "In order to give the farm, the village and the Festival team the traditional year off. There are no plans to hold an event at another location in 2018."

Glastonbury has also today detailed 2017 ticket sales (main tickets will be on sale 9am BST on Sunday, 9 October, with coach packages a few days earlier). Make sure you register in advance.

The Telegraph report that a potential site move to Longleat has fallen through, with organiser Michael Eavis having doubts over the instution's long-term future and stability. There had been rumours that Glastonbury could move to Longleat, but it now looks increasingly unlikely due to bickering aristocrats Viscount Weymouth and Lord Bath (son and father) still at odds.

"Longleat probably won't happen anymore," says Eavis. "Lord Bath is really keen. I went to him because I knew him when he was a boy. But he and his son aren't agreeing, and they don't speak very much, so it's hard to make decisions. I haven't been able to sit down with all of them at the same time.”

“Ceawlin [Viscount Weymouth] and [wife] Emma don't like the mud. They saw the mud at its worst. They were supposed to come and see it all cleaned up on 1 September, but they didn't turn up. They let me down gently about their decision. I went round to their house and we had a very long discussion. They said to clean up all that mud, they'd have to restrict the whole of the operations at Longleat for about three months and it's too expensive."

Could next year's event be the last?
