Flying Lotus samples Queen on new track “Night Grows Pale”
Just a day after he dropped a remix of the Twin Peaks theme tune at Seattle’s Upstream Music Festival, Flying Lotus samples "White Queen (As It Began)" from the Queen's 1974 album Queen II on a new cut.
Flying Lotus, no matter what sort of project he is embroiled in, seems to command a level of profound respect from everyone within music. It’s a brave move reworking the theme to one of America’s best-loved television shows and an even braver one to tinker with Freddie Mercury, who is still regarded as basically the embodiment of Christ by a large contingent of the planet.
That is the genius of FlyLo - irreverence, change, and weirdness. These qualities he imbues within "Night Grows Pale", mixing J Dilla beats with muted guitar stabs and ethereal synthesis to create a trademark sultry night jam.
