Listen: St Tropez - "Maybe Nothing"
Hailing from Oakland, St Tropez is a five-piece that formed in 2012 with a name that simply exudes summer. Since then, the band have gained popularity in the Bay Area and became one of the most hotly-tipped local acts, following this success with their debut single, “In Pictures”, back in May.
The band will release an entirely self-produced full length album this autumn but in the mean time are offering a free download of their latest track, “Maybe Nothing”.
An atmospheric, odd-paced tune in which the rhythm section commands and directs the instrumentation in glistening, almost-psychedelic surroundings, “Maybe Nothing” is a slow but sure grower. Its hiccuping introduction morphs into a guitar and drum-heavy section, a moment that powers through quickly, before returning into its syncopated origins. The track displays the clever craft of each band member - from arpeggiating guitars and bass, to ethereal folk-inspired keyboards - which will get you into in some kind of old-fashioned California Dreamin’.
