Before the release of debut EP Saudade next week, Brooklyn singer Tei Shi has generously aired “Nature vs Nurture”, an absolute gem of a track that manages to balance quirkiness and catchiness perfectly.
Self-described as being ‘mermaid music’, ‘Nature vs Nurture” is a swirling whirlpool blend of Valerie Teicher’s spaced-out vocals and subtle, lush synths which grows into quite the foot-tapper thanks to its funky beat. Unlike many other tracks of a similar nature, it manages to work brilliantly without a fixed structure, sounding perfectly natural with see-sawing sounds and vocals.
