Music streaming service Grooveshark has announced plans to open a free service whereby its users create radio stations.
They call it ‘Broadcast’, saying its aim is to both “democratize” radio and help “web DJ’s grow into celebrities the way YouTube has created homegrown video celebrities,” says Grooveshark CEO Sam Tarantino. This is more than newsworthy, as Grooveshark attract a whopping 30 billion estimated users per month.
Tarantino is currently in talks with record labels concerning licencing, which may not progress smoothly given that Grooveshark has a history of being sued by, among others, all four major labels.
