Youtube anger independent labels over new licensing deal
Youtube have alienated a large number of independent labels with new licensing terms and conditions to come with their upcoming streaming service that’s set to launch.
As Music Week report, the video site have reached agreements with major labels Sony, Universal and Warner but plan on blocking any content from labels that do not sign up to their new conditions.
Alison Wenham of the Association of Independent Music have called the move “unnecessary and indefensible”, writing: “Our members are small businesses who rely on a variety of income streams to invest in new talent. They are being told by one of the largest companies in the world to accept terms that are out of step with the marketplace for streaming”.
The long-rumoured music streaming service from Youtube is expected to launch shortly.
