Watch Janelle Monáe's Dirty Computer "emotion picture"
Janelle Monae's new album Dirty Computer is out now (if you've not listened to it yet, get on that ASAP), and now she's revealed the full accompanying film.
The 48-minute film - or "emotion picture", as Monáe has dubbed it - is produced by Monáe and directed by Andrew Donoho and Chuck Lightning. Directors Alan Ferguson, Emma Westenberg, and Lacey Duke also contribute.
Monáe's "emotion picture" is described as "the story of a young woman named Jane 57821 [Monáe] who is living in a totalitarian near-future society where citizens are referred to as 'computers'." Tessa Thompson (Avengers: Infinity War, Selma) co-stars in the film, which "explores humanity and what truly happens to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness when mind and machines merge, and when the government chooses fear over freedom."
The Prince-assisted album features previously aired singles "I Like That", Grimes collab "PYNK", "Make Me Feel", and "Django Jane" and follows 2013's Electric Lady. Brian Wilson, Pharrell, and Zoë Kravitz also feature.
