Live Aid show to be re-broadcasted in celebration of its 40th anniversary

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Live Aid, Greatest Hits Radio have announced that they will re-broadcast the full benefit concert on 13 July.

Taking place in 1985, Live Aid saw performances from the likes of Queen, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Elton John, The Who, Phil Collins, U2, and more. The event raised over £114m for the Ethiopian famine. The ten-hour radio special will hosted by Simon Mayo and includes commentary from Martin Kemp, who performed at the original event with Spandau Ballet, as well as members Live Aid musical Just For One Day.

Band Aid trust co-founder Bob Geldof said: “Thank you Greatest Hits Radio for hopefully letting people know that they are not powerless in the face of human monstrosity. What better time than now to know and understand the power of music and what it can achieve.”
