RM Hubbert releases new covers EP to fund recovery
Scottish singer/songwriter RM Hubbert has released a new EP, featuring covers of Kathryn Joseph, Sebadoh, and more.
The four-track release also includes renditions of Sparklehorse and Minutemen.
Hubbert explained the purpose of the EP in a letter on Facebook: "I have a favour to ask. I'm guessing that if you're reading this, we either know each other or you've enjoyed one of my shows or albums. If that's the case, you'll no doubt be aware of my mental health issues. You also may have noticed that I've not been booking many and / or cancelling shows."
"Basically, I haven't been coping well," he continues. "My mental health deteriorated dramatically during last year after Telling the Trees came out, reaching breaking point this January when I finally did what I have always found hardest; I asked for help. The mental health crisis team at NHS South Ayrshire looked after me and did fucking brilliant job of it. I owe them my life. I'm getting better again. I've moved back to Glasgow to be closer to the many people that love and support me.
"You may have noticed that I did a few impromptu songs through Facebook Live a while back. One of the hardest parts of dealing with depression is in the seeming impossibility of the daily, mundane tasks we have to do. It's important to acknowledge and celebrate doing the smallest of tasks. That's why I did those little shows. Even if learning that song and performing it was the only thing I did that day, it was a good, productive day.
"And now to the crux. The illness has stopped me working for the best part of a year. My savings are gone and I'm whilst I'm getting better, I'm not emotionally stable enough to return to a normal job. I'm slowly returning to music full time but in the meantime, I need to ask you for a little help."
Hubbert's most recent full-length was last year's stunning Telling The Trees.
