Jessie Ware pushes back album release by one week to observe Juneteenth
Jessie Ware has announced that she's delaying the release of her What's Your Pleasure? album by one week to observe Juneteenth next week.
What's Your Pleasure? was originally due to arrive on 19 June, but in light of the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests, Jessie Ware has decided to push the release date back a week to observe Juneteenth on 19 June.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, acknowledges the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy back in 1865.
In her video message posted on Instagram last night (9 June), Ware says, "It's been brought to my attention that June 19th is in fact a special date in American history. It's celebrated as Juneteenth. It's an incredibly important day for black voices, and I don't want to distract from those voices or those experiences or stories in any way, and therefore I have decided to move my album What's Your Pleasure? back one week to come out on June 26th globally. This means the world to me and I appreciate your understanding in this."
