Ian MacKaye allows Urban Outfitters to sell Minor Threat t-shirts for $28
DIY punk, hardcore legend and Straight Edge advocate, Minor Threat’s Ian MacKaye was asked in a recent interview what his thoughts were on trendy clothing shop Urban Outfitters selling presumably bootleg t-shirts with his band’s name on them for extortionate prices. His reply? The shirts are legit, but he doesn’t “give a fuck about t-shirts”.
The retail chain recently introduced Minor Threat t-shirts with a sheep design to their stores and on their website, shifting the items for a whopping $28 – around double of what you’re likely to pay at a gig merch stand.
Speaking to the Washington City Paper recently, MacKaye said: ”It’s not a political thing for me. I just don’t give a fuck about T-shirts… Do I think it’s absurd? Yes, I certainly do. Motherfuckers pay $28, that’s what they wanna pay for their shirts.”
It’s not just t-shirts either, with the recent flurry of band branded footwear catching MacKaye’s attention too. ”I guess it makes their feet feel fuckin’ rich,” he added.
MacKaye’s record label, Dischord experienced legal issues with Forever 21 back in 2009 when the fashion line starting selling bootlegs Minor Threat tees.
