Montreal duo Handsome Furs have announced they are to break-up.
The indie-pop husband-and-wife pair made the announcement via their official Facebook page and have also cancelled their current tour due to “urgent health issues”.
The band - consisting of Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry – released this statement:
“With a heavy heart the time has come to let all of you know that Handsome Furs are no more.
The most important thing that needs to be said right now is how extremely grateful we are to all the fans all over the world that showered us with love and support over the years. Thank you for everything! It’s been an incredible 6 years and we owe it all to you.”
Their label, Sub Pop, on the other hand, had this to say:
“The Handsome Furs are finished. We will not be be elaborating any further on the matter”
The group last released album Sound Kapital in 2011, after Boeckner’s other band Wolf Parade announced their own hiatus. It is unknown whether the pair will remain as a couple.
