Halle Bailey opens up about motherhood and identity on new single “Braveface”

20 June 2025, 15:49 | Written by Lucy Niederman

Returning with her second solo single, Halle Bailey has released a raw and emotional track with "Braveface"

The song sees the rising R&B musician confronting her struggles with postpartum depression, self-image, and the weight of new motherhood. The single was co-written with multi-Brit award winner, Raye, who also makes an appearance within the music video.

Over gentle guitar plucks and scarce production, Halle delivers listener a vulnerable performance. “Sittin’ on the floor, curled up in a ball / Lookin’ in the mirror and I feel so f-ckin’ small,” she sings in the opening verse. “Then I grab my makeup bag and shuffle it around / My head is in the clouds, self-esteem is on the ground.”

The track follows her Valentine’s Day-themed debut single, “Back & Forth”, as well as her recent collaboration with R&B singer Leon Thomas. “Braveface” builds the anticipation for the 25-year-old’s longingly awaited debut album.
