Emma-Jean Thackray previews debut album with cathartic new single "Spectre"
Emma-Jean Thackray has unveiled new track "Spectre" as the second taster of her upcoming debut album Yellow.
"Spectre" is the second song to be lifted from Yellow, following April's lead single "Say Something", and is accompanied by a live performance video filmed at The Church Studios.
Thackray says of the new track, "Mental illness can devour a person from the inside, feeding on their joy, their passions, even their memories, and leave them to haunt the house like a ghost of their former selves. "Spectre" is a means of catharsis."
Yellow will follow Thackray's 2020 EP Um Yang 음 양. She says, "It’s a record about togetherness, the oneness of all things in the universe, showing love and kindness, human connection. I approached the record by trying to simulate a life-changing psychedelic experience, an hour where we see behind the curtain to a hidden dimension, where the physical realm melts away and we finally see that we are all one."
As well as working on her own music, Thackray contributed brass to Squid's highly-anticipated debut album Bright Green Field, which landed last month.
