Dilly Dally's guttural punk thrills at debut UK show
There was barely an inch of floor space left at The Dalston Victoria when Dilly Dally took to the stage for their first proper UK show last night.
Having built some serious momentum after last year's CMJ, the Toronto outfit are over here to test the waters with their seriously gritty debut album.
In a sold out room, with a temperature to match, the four-piece wasted little breath before ripping into material from Sore (released last year via Buzz Records in Canada, and Partisan in the UK).
Channeling Kathleen Hanna and Brody Dalle in equal measure, Katie Monks possesses rasping, incendiary vocals that - along with vicious riffs, chugging basslines and heavy hitting drum snaps - delivered a blisteringly urgent set of guttural punk and angst filled garage pop. It's raw, honest and suits the increasingly sweaty room. Highlights come from "Gender Role", "Purple Rage" and the slightly fuller, poppier sound of "Desire".
