Body Type announce new EP with dizzying lead single "Stingray"
Australia's Body Type have announced their forthcoming EP2, which lands with the punchy lead single "Stingray".
"Stingray" is the first offering from Body Type since their self-titled debut EP that landed last year.
On the new single, vocalist Sophie McComish explains, “Georgia (bass, vocals) has a deck of animal tarot cards - I was doing a reading for my lover and pulled out the Stingray. Despite having no backbone (all cartilage, like a shark), the stingray is a powerful creature that can blend into its surroundings but delivers a nasty attack when provoked. This is a song about observing my friends being stuck in relationship ruts and trying to shake them out of it, reminding them of their power to sting and swim away gracefully."
The new single arrives with visuals filmed with Nicholas Griffith at Sydney Aquarium, featuring a stingray called Freckle who gave birth despite not having contact with a male in nine years. On the video, McComish adds, "I saw parallels between her story and the theme of the song itself - Freckle is an inspiration for everyone in dead end relationships - so Nick and I decided she should be the star of this video. It was great to be able to work on a location that gave so many different opportunities to capture unique shots. Every room had its own characteristic from glowing sci fi jellyfish tubes to warped and watery walls."
"Stingray" is the opening track of their newly-announced EP2, which will feature four other new tracks.
