Listen: Young & Sick – Continuum
The elusive soul-wrenching singer Young & Sick has emerged from the darkness once more, this time piquing the curiosity of a different type of fan. Just as much of the music world was descending upon Austin for the annual SXSW Music Festival, Young & Sick quietly debuted their new single, ‘Continuum’ on TOR, an acronym for “The Onion Router”, the interweb browser extension compiling the most illegal, dark and curious interests in untraceable wiki-like lists.
Forbes actually broke the story on ‘Continuum’, which they discovered nestled between searches for “Financial Services”, “Drugs” and “Underage Erotica”. In their interview with Forbes, Young & Sick explained their concept behind releasing the track the way they did, saying “The single continuum is a dark enough love song that it should be living in the middle of the most violent, illegal, and mysterious part of the web,” they said. ”The privacy of the deep web struck is beautiful and fits best with our views. Why is it that people embrace and encourage sharing so much of your life’s content with strangers? It isn’t normal.”
The song itself is a delicate whirlwind of dark soulful harmonies, crackling distorted rhythms and echoing chants telling a tale of heartache and longing desire we’re all too familiar with. With each listen the layers of Young & Sick’s creative juices seep through the murk of mystery just enough to draw you in and envelop you entirely.
