“I’m not on drugs I’m just in love”, Tove Lo declares over an earth shattering chorus. Continuing her ascent as one of the new leading figures in Swedish pop music, the Stockholm based singer-songwriter is all out defiant on her astonishing new song, lifted from the forthcoming debut EP Truth Serum.
Over the course of 12 months, Lo has delivered a handful of songs that all focus on the same subject – each being a fragment of a time period that recounts a past relationship. From the carefree beginnings of a new romance (“Love Ballad”), the excessive self-loathing of a breakup (“Habits”) right through to the hindsight that distance ultimately brings (“Out Of Mind”). “Not On Drugs” sees Tove in blissful mode – comparing her love to that of being under the influence of a bunch of Class A’s. We’ve all been there, which is exactly why everything that she writes hits so hard. And, with heart on sleeve paens such as these, Truth Serum acts as a perfect and most fitting title to the collection of tracks the aforementioned all fall under.
Truth Serum is released worldwide on March 3. Listen to the unrelenting “Not On Drugs” below alongside a trailer for said EP.
