Paris bunch ANTHEMS appear to have overhead any frenzied cries for an escape from this despondent January haze, albeit from across the choppy waters of the Channel on their latest track, “Up In Mine”.
The song oozes a slouched, soothing groove from the outset, with an intricate flurry of cascading synths and hushed vocal evolving – in sumptuous fashion – over the course of four-minutes.
Fellow label mates Champions League are tasked with production duties, and it shows. Ambitious swathes of gorgeous sonic texture are allowed plenty of room to breathe, whereas glittering pools of chilly Parisian sunshine swamp the skittering percussion that underpins the track throughout.
Despite remaining steeped in mystery, ANTHEMS seem intent on hauling us from winter’s icy grip. We’re certainly thawing out.
