Kiyomi strikes out on "High Ladder" with unwavering vocal strength, carving an unforgettable introduction to her intense, dynamic sound and songwriting style. The distorted, disorientating synth fizz is at odds with tight string samples, yet the two intertwine to create a balanced backdrop for the track's message. The narrative centres around Kiyomi's own drive to create authentic art true to her own self despite the constraints of an increasingly controlling industry.
"I wrote 'High Ladder' when chasing the dream was like chasing moonlight," Kiyomi explains. "It was a time of many closed doors and this song started to open them."
