Norway’s Frøkedal breathes a folky warmth into new track “Stranger”
“Stranger”, the new single from the Oslo-based Frøkedal, is a softly-lit exploration of new beginnings, bolstered by layered vocals and sweet, subtle strings.
Frøkedal’s sound hinges on a very involved songwriting style, not dissimilar to that of Laura Marling, or indeed of Joni Mitchell. “Stranger” is a song that takes you by the hand and invites you in, all warm, folky guitars, and knowing lucidity. By the second or third listen, it’s a track that feels comfortably familiar, and that’s by no means a criticism.
It’s little wonder that Frøkedal is able to do so much with a track that barely tips three minutes in length. With a Norwegian Grammy-nominated debut record on top of a strong hand of past collaborations - including Sufjan Stevens and Robyn Hitchcock - this talent should come as no surprise.
