Cosima's rhythmic ode "Hymns For Him" is another flawless release
Cosima's new one "Hymns For Him" is a darkly addictive combination of threadbare rhythms and luscious harmonies.
Cosima's vocals once again reign supreme - they're commanding and evocative at every turn, bolstered in the chorus by warm, soulful backing vox. Underneath the golden voice is a vastly different song, with autumn-crunch beats and Michael Jackson-esque basslines vying for attention. It's a sparse ode, a world away from her dreamy offerings so far, but it's yet another excellent step for this Peckham newcomer.
“'Hymns For Him' is about trying to put love into a relationship where it really does not exist,” says Cosima of the track. “There was a total imbalance of power. I had the highest opinion of him and the lowest of me; I would have done anything if it meant that he would reciprocate my feelings. I wrote this song after I’d made one compromise too many. Seeing the lyrics on the page made me realise how badly I was treating myself.”
