Deadpan yet dreamy diva Foxgluvv is back with the heartbreak pop of "Fries"
If you like your synth-pop with a side of heartbreak, foxgluvv's got just the thing for that. New single "Fries" sees the London-based singer – real name Imogen Davies – deliver another hit of perfect 80s-tinged pop; this time turning her characteristically frank musings to the end of a relationship.
The vintage feel suits the fast food joint setting of her lyrical narrative, which is so deadpan it could almost be comical... if we couldn't all relate so hard. It's tender and awkward in equal measure, with a buffet of left-field samples scattered across the background. Producer and long-term collaborator Scott Colcombe also continues to prove himself in what's obviously a well-matched creative partnership. For these two, it's been clear since day one that perfection is the only option.
"This song is for anyone who can relate to being dumped or dumping someone," Davies explains. "Whether it’s your pal, your girlfriend/boyfriend/partner. If a relationship ended and you need time to reflect, turn "Fries" full volume and just know everything's gonna be okay."
