Acopia lets feelings simmer in their dreamy new post-punk single “Talk About It”

Acopia explores the grim reality in their captivating new single “Talk About It”. With driving guitar and rhythmic drum hits, the song opens into a rich, dreamy soundscape. There’s a lethargic interplay of bass and looped guitar, a striking, moody conversation, that walks listeners through the heavy, stripped-back plain. As singer Kate Durman’s ethereal vocals slip in, the song explores fears of emotional intimacy and the piling weight of all the things left unspoken. ""Talk About It” was built around the main guitar riff that opens the song and was finished within a day or two. It explores the themes of avoidance and ambivalence and how they relate to confrontation within a relationship,” the band says. “The lyrics are very literal but also not giving anything away - it came about because one of us was unwilling to talk about something that was very clearly upsetting.”

Rounded out by bandmates Morgan Wright and Lachlan McGeehan, the three members of Acopia are established producers in their own right, making for a clean, slacker rock sound. Their new single “Talk About It” is a reminder that while confrontation is difficult, staying true to yourself is necessary to live a fully honest life. It comes after the release of the Australian rock band’s critically-acclaimed self-titled album from 2023 and teases what’s to come.

The band has supported peers in the scene from Bar Italia to Tirzah in the past, but they’re making their headline debut in London on May 19th.
