Kins return with a statement of intent in the shape of “Young”
Having spent much of 2014 on the road in the US with Courtney Barnett, Kins have returned with a brilliantly punchy outing, foreshadowing real quality to come from their Cyclical EP early next month.
Originally forming Down Under, the London/Stockholm-based quartet - Thomas Savage (lead vocals/guitar), Rob Walters (bass), Alex Crosby (guitar/keyboards) and Alex Knight (drums) - combine an arresting falsetto vocal with driving, crunching guitars, whirring keys and bone-shaking bass in a recipe for beautifully haunting alt-pop.
Kins will win over fans of Glass Animals, alt-J and Wild Beasts thanks to their very obvious knack for the subtly weird and gently unnerving: “I’m in the ditch and you’re out on track/I held myself back, keep an eye on your back” Savage coos as the track rises and falls through its dream-like journey.
With UK dates at Brighton’s Green Door Store on 6 July and Servants Jazz Quarters in London the following day, the band are well and truly back, and if “Young” is anything to go by, we’ll be making them our kinsmen; stream below.
