An unnamed law enforcement official today confirmed that the icon's death was caused by opioid drugs. The official - reportedly "close to the investigation" - was speaking to Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
The AP article adds: "Investigators have been reviewing whether Prince died of an overdose and whether a doctor was prescribing him drugs in the weeks before his death."
Prince died aged 57 on 21 April at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota.
