Official Vinyl Chart launched in the UK ahead of Record Store Day
With vinyl becoming more and more popular with each new wave of statistics that's released, the Official Charts Company has devised a dedicated chart for the format.
This arrives just in time for Record Store Day - one of the biggest periods of the year for vinyl sales.
Vinyl sales hit their highest levels in well over a decade last year, and have already risen 70% this year. In 2007, the format hit a rock bottom level of 0.1% of the market, but it's bounced back to consderably over 1 million units shifted a year, at 1.5% of total album sales.
For the first chart, measured on 13 April, All Time Low scored the top spot for album six Future Hearts - also the UK overall number one album. Making up the rest of the top ten are records by Nadine Shah, Sufjan Stevens, Drenge, East India Youth and Courtney Barnett. The singles chart was topped by Underworld vs Heller & Farley's "Baby Wants to Ride". Others in the top ten include Circa Waves, Chic, David Bowie and Everything Everything.
Record Store Day 2015 takes place this Saturday, 18 April.
