Low criticised for performing one song for 27 minutes at hometown festival

You’d expect a band playing a gig in their home state to be given a hero’s welcome. Heck, Philadelphia have just named a day after Kurt Vile. But things weren’t so rosy for Minnesota’s own Low, who garnered a mixed response – at best – at the recent Rock The Garden festival in Minneapolis when they delivered a 27 minute-long one-set song in front of a baffled audience.

Their performance was of 1996′s ‘Do You Know How To Waltz?’, a song which was stretched from its 14 minute recorded appearance. The set led to many complaints, and even a Twitter account being set up against it. Critics have called the set ”an unending wall of noise”, according to local blog The Current.

The band’s frontman Alan Sparhawk, however, has defended their decision. “It was a big show, so we wanted to do something big and different,” he said in an interview after the event. “If I was there in the audience, that’s the kind of thing I’d like to see a band do.”
