Dutch Uncles are premiering new LP O Shudder over the tannoy at a football match

11 February 2015, 12:58 | Written by Laurence Day

Art-pop quintet Dutch Uncles have gone down a novel route to display their new album, O Shudder, to the masses - they'll premiere it over the tannoy at a non-league football match between West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC and Bootle.

The band will premiere their record over the tannoy system and in the clubhouse after the match concludes.

Explaining the decision, Dutch Uncles said:

“Between the five of us, we support three different football teams: Stockport County, Manchester United and City. This season we’ve adopted our local amateur team so we can call cheer on the same side every Saturday without breaking out into any arguments. It’s started to become a regular pilgrimage for all of us and we thought it would be fun to mark the release of our new album by sponsoring their biggest match ever… a quarter final cup tie against against Bootle."

The band's Duncan Wallis added:

"We’re banking on a West Didsbury & Chorlton win or it could make the whole post-match album premier thing a little bittersweet... celebrations and commiserations aside, we wanted to mark the occasion with a bit of fun and hopefully help the team win over some new fans... and maybe vice versa."

The match kicks off at 3pm, and at half-time, fans can participate against Dutch Uncles FC in a penalty shootout; check out what you're up against below. There will also be "a raffle to win the match ball signed by the band and the team", and the band will pick the man of the match.

The team will run out onto the pitch to new Dutch Uncles cut, "Be Right Back"; it's not quite the same sporting mantra as "When The Saints Go Marching In" or "You'll Never Walk Alone", but it's powerful in its own way, with spacey strings, low-slung funk bass and dream-pop hallmarks. Stealing Sheep also contribute vocals to the fray.

O Shudder is out on 23 February via Memphis Industries.

Tickets to the match cost £5 for adults, £3 for concessions - more information can be found here.
