Listen: The Tarantula Waltz - "Lynx" [Premiere]

08 April 2015, 09:45 | Written by Jessica Goodman

Swedish wonder The Tarantula Waltz is premiering the title track from his upcoming Lynx EP exclusively on Best Fit.

Delicate though the refrains may be, "Lynx" is anything but fragile. Resounding with a potent sense of purpose, the track is a blissful lullaby, a comforting ode to never falling flat. Markus Svensson's vocals float through the speakers and cut to your core within an instant - a chillingly beautiful awakening from an artist who has truly found his element. A soaring orchestral backing crafts a tapestry luscious enough for you to lose yourself in completely.

"The storm will always abate," Svensson sooths, "j-just wait." When the advice sounds this charming, what is there to argue with? "Lynx" is an arm around your shoulder, a hand dragging you back to your feet with your head held high, come what may.

Recorded with Kristian Matsson (The Tallest Man on Earth) in his home studio in the heart of Swedish woodland - with Matsson acting as producer and musician - the Lynx EP is The Tarantula Waltz at his most empowered.

“These are by far the most positive and life-affirming stuff I’ve written," Svensson explained. "I wrote the title track Lynx to my son, and another song is dedicated to my father. I honestly have no idea how many days and nights we spent in the studio. We had a lot of fun and lots of energy. I’ve never experienced the recording process going so smoothly and frictionless before, and I’m very proud of what we accomplished. You can naturally still hear that it’s me but it’s definitely a step in a new direction for me, both musically and lyrically.”

Lynx will be released via Woah Dad! on 20 May. Stream the EP's title track below, and find The Tarantula Waltz's upcoming European dates with The Tallest Man On Earth beneath the track.
