Ambient producer Trevor Ransom streams atmospheric debut EP Glimpses [Premiere]
Trevor Ransom is streaming his debut EP Glimpses on Best Fit ahead of its release later this week.
Born and raised in Seattle, and inspired by the UK's natural surroundings, the Sweden-based ambient producer embarks on a journey with Glimpses. Ransom has channelled personal anguish and his natural surroundings into the six-track release, drawing upon the hugeness of the outdoors as well as personal turmoil - the result is something beautiful.
Ransom toys with texture and dynamics frequently on Glimpses, and despite the ambient nature and often subversive structures, his melodic prowess shines through. It's incredibly immersive, vivid noise, touching on post-rock and experimental electronica, and whisking you away to different places and worlds.
Speaking about the release, Ransom says: “Sometimes when I write music I start with a picture. I try to immerse myself into the conversations and mood of the world captured inside that image. Then I write from the emotions and thoughts I get from that... I think [these songs] form a mini-biography of my life this past year and what I’ve been learning because I just sat down and wrote them without much premeditation. For me, at least recently, that’s probably the most authentic form of songwriting.”
Ransom's Glimpses EP is out 30 October via Outset.
