On 28 March Float PR founder Sofia Ilyas hosted a special event at the De Montford Suite in Town Hall Hotel to help celebrate Piano Day which was founded by composer Nils Frahm. All photos by Aaron Rivando.
Anna Rose Carter opened the evening with a piano performance, followed by singer songwriter Ed Harcourt who premiered new material from his forthcoming album. Lily Hunter Green presented her ‘Bee Composed’ project which saw her place a beehive inside a piano and has helped increase awareness of the declining bee population. She was accompanied by violinist Tom Moore against a backdrop of bee recordings. Creative Director Michael Salu presented the exclusive first play of ‘Nocturnes’, a specially commissioned short film created for Piano Day in collaboration with Float PR. RK Polak created a abstract painting on Canvas using oil pastels, acrylic, enamel and pencil inspired by all of the performances. The evening ended with musician and creative coder Felix Faire who presented a real time audio visual performance using the ROLI Seaboard RISE.
Piano Day 2016 saw events occur worldwide as well as Nils offering fans a four track EP for free download via the Piano Day website.
