Taylor Swift street sign auction raises over $200,000 for food bank
An auction for a street sign in Canada, which was renamed after Taylor Swift, has raised more than $200,000 for the Daily Bread Food Bank.
Ahead of her six-night run at the Rogers Centre, in Toronto, Canada, the city renamed Blue Jays Way (the street in front of the Rogers Centre) as Taylor Swift Way. This isn't the first time that a city have honoured Swift in this way, as last year, Arizona city Glendale renamed themselves Swift City, Las Vegas lighting up its Gateway Arches in colours that corresponded to different eras of Swifts career, being gifted key to the city of Arlington, Texas and having the German city Gelsenkirchen renamed itself Swiftkirchen.
There were also 22 other street signs, honouring Swift, that were put up in Toronto, which were due to be auctioned following Swift's run of shows. The Rogers Communications declared that they would match any bids up to $113,000. In total, the auction raised $216,842.96, with all proceeds being donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank which works to eliminate food insecurity and end poverty.
It’s official: Taylor Swift Way has raised $216,842.96 for the Daily Bread Food Bank! Thank you to everyone who bid on the signs, to Rogers for rounding up matching donations to $113,000, and thank you Daily Bread for working hard to combat food insecurity in Toronto.
