Snoop Dogg discusses upcoming biopic directed by Allen Hughes
The director – who has worked on films such as Book of Eli, New York, I Love You, and From Hell – revealed to Variety that shooting will begin shortly on the upcoming biopic of Snoop Dogg.
Earlier this week (18 April) – at the premiere of his upcoming FX docuseries “Dear Mama,” which chronicles the lives of Tupac Shakur and his mother, Afeni Shakur – Hughes discussed the forthcoming biopic.
“He surprised me with that biopic,” Hughes said of signing on to the film. “I can’t wait to go back to the hood, and do a hood story that becomes inspirational. That’s what I get from him," he said before continuing: “Who’s more beloved than him in the world? He’s got such a special energy and I can’t wait to do it.”
Snoop also shared his excitement for the film, which has a script written by Joe Robert Cole, co-writer of both Black Panther films.
“With the biopic, I’m looking forward to people seeing this right here, this love story,” Snoop said, hugging his wife Broadus closely. “To see the love that I have for my music career. The people that have inspired me to love. Just watching it all unfold. Coming to a theater near you.”
The Universal movie is the first film produced by Death Row Pictures, following Snoop’s acquisition of Death Row Records in 2022.
