Viral video propels Kanye West song 'Gone' into U.S Top 20 eight years after release
Despite saying he wasn’t interested in making radio-friendly hits, Kanye West has finally broke into the U.S charts Top 20 again. But it isn’t with any track from Yeezus. Instead, one of his songs dating back to 2005 has re-entered the charts after being used as the soundtrack for a viral video.
The clip posted by Youtube user Marina Shifrin sees the young professional quitting her job by creating a public video for her boss. ‘Gone’ from West’s Late Registration album was chosen as the apt song to hit home the message.
Now, due to video streams counting to chart calculations due to recent rule changes, the track has reached number 18 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is significantly higher than West’s actual current single ‘Bound 2′, which only peaked at #31.
