Sons of Kemet preview new album with second single "To Never Forget The Source"
Sons of Kemet have delivered new song "To Never Forget The Source" today (23 April), which arrives as a second taster of their forthcoming album Black To The Future.
After announcing their new album with lead cut "Hustle" featuring Kojey Radical last month, Sons of Kemet have returned with a second taster of the album in the form of new song "To Never Forget The Source".
Shabaka Hutchings explains, "The Source refers to the principles which govern traditional African cosmologies/ontological outlooks and symbolises the inner journey. It is the unifying factor that gives meaning both to looking backwards (in nuancing and continually adding depth of contextualisation and meaning to the past) and visioning forward (in speculating and striving to realise a better future for humanity)."
Black To The Future will follow the group's 2018 album Your Queen is a Reptile, and features collaborations with D Double E, Moor Mother, Angel Bat Dawid and Joshua Idehen.
Of the album, Hutchings says, "Black To The Future is a sonic poem for the invocation of power, remembrance and healing. It depicts a movement to redefine and reaffirm what it means to strive for black power."
He adds, "The meaning is not universal and the cultural context of the listener will shape their understanding. Yet in the end, the overarching message remains the same: For humanity to progress we must consider what it means to be Black To The Future."
